1 What, me worry?  Fri, Aug 17, 2012 6:24:20pm

This is one of those stories I wish would disappear. One of those shiny, dangly objects to make you look over there -->

I guess the story started from the NYT quoted in the Rolling Stones article:

[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

The nation’s first Generation X vice-presidential candidate, he is an avowed proponent of free markets whose family has interests in oil leases. But he counts Rage Against the Machine, which sings about the greed of oil companies and whose Web site praises the anti-corporate Occupy Wall Street movement, among his favorite bands.

That's it for RATM. But out of all the stuff in the article, basically Ryan's entire bio of his personal and professional life, RATM is the major story? Feh.

Morello is a Communist. He's totally out about that. Now, RATM was never my kind of music. I did like Audioslave which many people say sucked (??), but I knew nothing at the time about Morello's politics. It was actually my love for Chris Cornell, with those amazing kissy lips (and his music is awesome, too) that I started paying any attention to Morello. Then there was that little gig in Cuba that pissed me off. Soon after, Audioslave broke up. Anyway, they're still on my iPod.

So I'm saying, it's popular music. Who cares? It has zero meaning. Most people have no idea what the political views are of their favorite bands. And it's probably better that way.

One day we'll found out that Bill Clinton is a secret Juggalo and all hell's gonna break loose.

That Morello is a communist makes Ryan even more of a dupe.

Either way RATM is an epic band. I don't agree with all of Zack's lyrics and the Free Mumia bandwagon, but a unique band none the less.

Through my snark, I recognize that Murello is an amazing guitarist. I like his music, but RATM was just never my style. I agree, they were unique, which in an of itself is a rarity these days.

Morello, or any other member of RATM for that matter, should shut-up about Paul Ryan. Why? Because these far right kooks consider it a badge of honor to be hated by RATM. Tom is effectively encouraging Paul.

I know, I know. This advice won't be heeded.

Say what you want about his politics, but Morello can shred. Plus, he's awesome. I saw him play with Springsteen during SXSW and he was a total fanboy and was clearly having a blast on stage.

On a related note, this has been making the rounds on FB:

Rage Against The Machine - Sleep Now In The Fire

I don't like RATM any more than I like Paul Ryan. I've always found it hilarious that RATM are somehow perceived as some kind of totally anti-establishment revolutionaries. Meanwhile, they work for the largest entertainment corporation on the planet. Rage Against The Machine (Except Sony).

I don't think it's very effective. It just makes Ryan look clueless.

Unfortunately, the first thing that comes to my mind about Rage Against the Machine is their video for "Testify", which was directed by Michael Moore.

Yeah man, Bush and Gore were the same. Ugh. Some contribution to politics.

Oh for Pete's sake!

I did see something on Twitter that made me chuckle. Something to the effect, "Paul Ryan likes Ayn Rand and RATM. Now I get it. He's a 15 year old boy."

Heh he looks like he could be one. Really that dude doesn't look like he's had any stubble ever.
